The Tavern Littleton is located on the corner of Main Street and South Curtice Street is a true hidden gem. Now I’m new to the cities and surrounding area so – hidden gem may take on different meanings for different people; I have a simple three point criteria 1) good food 2) good drinks 3) and even better prices, pretty simple.
Seeking out a rooftop on the little stretch of main street there is in Littleton – we decided that this spot would be the best place to try at 5 o clock on a Friday, we were pleasantly surprised when seating was open and quite available on the rooftop. Surrounded by what I deem the ‘mist machines’ with the warm sun on my skin I glance around the menu with no interest in particular. When I’m trying something new – I truly TRY something new, get out of my comfort zone eat something I normally wouldn’t try and decide on if the restaurant is a keeper or not. Not being completely hungry on this rather warm and incessantly sunny day – we go for drinks (the right priorities) happy to discover that it was a rather inexpensive and appealing 2 for 1 happy hour that includes: Well drinks, house wine, and domestic draft beer (not bad for a 2pm – 7pm happy hour). They also had a special on food; Poblano Queso Dip for $7 and a Flatiron Steak for $15 both very delicious, like licking the pan couldn’t get enough kind of delicious. As if our stay wasn’t complete I came to discover that they have not only 1, nor 2 but 3 happy hours – say no more, I’m there.
All in all the overall vibe was relaxed, people in their mid 20s early 30s enjoying their early departure from work on a Friday, lots of laughter, good music, and well prepared drinks. I should note there is also a downstairs (which is street level) that has a small patio and a large wrap around bar and booth style seating area, it looked inviting and comfortable but I was craving the sun on this particular day and almost sometimes feel like it’s sin to sit inside when the weather is so nice.
The only downside to the experience would be some of the servers looked bugged that they were there, and in all honesty no one is making you hold a job as wait staff and I don’t particularly enjoy snarky attitudes and constant scowls that being said, it was only a select few that struck me as miserable, everyone else fit the atmosphere and mood perfectly.
